Getting arrested with just about anything at a protest can potentially increase your charge right now. Literally bring your bare essentials. Officers in front of me had a conversation about whether my water bottle could have been intended to throw at an officer (ultimately decided not). I only had that, a t-shirt, a towel, and a jewish prayer book (that was also debated as a potential projectile. As if?) in my backpack so it didn’t happen to me. But a girl in my arrest group got an extra charge for having pepper spray + those self defense cat spikes on her house keys even though clearly it lives there. Guy I talked to while picking up our stuff got an extra charge for having acrylic paint, said he just took his school bag without emptying everything. Shit sucks. Lotta text posts are telling you to come prepared with a long list of things but yall should know they will charge you for Anything they can. Especially if it can be used as a weapon in literally any way / can be used for vandalism. So weigh your need for the item vs how easily it could be twisted as something that could cause harm when you pack.

Camden, New Jersey, may be the closest thing to a case study they can get.

The city, home to a population about 17% of Minneapolis’ size, dissolved its police department in 2012 and replaced it with an entirely new one after corruption rendered the existing agency unfixable.

Before its police reforms, Camden was routinely named one of the most violent cities in the US.

Now, seven years after the old department was booted (though around 100 officers were rehired), the city’s crime has dropped by close to half. Officers host outdoor parties for residents and knock on doors to introduce themselves. It’s a radically different Camden than it was even a decade ago. Here’s how they did it.

liberalsarecool

A perfect case study for reforming the police.

…and, at the time of his death, he was one of the most hated people in the USA.

life-as-a-hobby

The FBI sent him a letter trying to convince him to commit suicide. Don’t let this revisionist bullshit slide. The things they say now about protests, kneeling, etc, are the same things they said about the sit-ins and marches.

JUSTICE FOR MIGUEL

A white rich wowan kept her maid, a black woman, working despite covid-19. Annoyed by the maid’s 5 years old son crying when his mum left for a bit to walk her employer’s dog, the woman, Sari Corte Leal, left him in the elevator alone. Sari Corte was the one who pressed the button to a higher floor, (they were in the 5th) but he randomly pressed the 7th and the 9th later. he left the lift in the 9th (the only floor that didn’t have protection). miguel fell, and died. she paid a 20k bail and is free. she’s married to the mayor.

Miguel’s mother said: She trusted me to take care of her children. At the minute, I trusted her, she just got impatient

PLEASE, help Miguel’s mom by SIGNING THE PETITION!. They need justice!
